Hi! my name is Juan V. , been a record collector from my teen days became a black music lover in late eighties, during most of the 1990's i've played in much of the existing mod weekenders at that timeis Spain, that include some in France and England, at the same time started to run a soul weekender in Barcelona, Floorshaker, wich music policy changed trought the years, from mod/northern soul to across the board sounds in the end, like my personal taste, playing as well in several ocasions in other weekends like Soul4Real and Movin´ On, now in Valencia i'm part of the team running Black Music, a club held every two months where we play from 50's R&b to 2YK and beyond. Hi! I’m Adela Dominguez, from Asturias, but currently living in Madrid. It’s a real pleasure to have been invited to spin some records on the Deep Cliff Soul weekender. I’ve been collecting records for a while now, mostly jazz, R&B and soul, and lately moving forward to more modern and disco sounds. I had the honour of dj at a bunch of festivals and allnighters, like Someday Allnighter, Mojo Working Festival, EuroYeye, Beltza Weekend to say a few, and also co-organize a couple of young clubs, Hey Sister in Madrid, a club born with the will of boost the presence of women collectors in the scene, and CARBÓN (which means “coal”), a black music oriented night, from soul to house, and all in between. Hector Gallegos is a San Antonio, TX based dj that enjoys collecting Chicano, Sweet Soul and Latin records.
He began collecting vinyl records in high school, mostly punk and indie records. Through other dj friends he was introduced to rare soul and funk records. Intrigued by the Chicano artists, he pursued to learn about them and collect artists recorded on local record labels. Through collecting and trading he met other like-minded djs in the city and joined several vinyl nights. Including one called Alamo City Soul Club; a vinyl night dedicated to the rare soul and funk. Besides heading this monthly event, he has hosted musical acts such as Archie Bell, Ernie Garibay, Durand Jones and the Indications and Los Skarnales.

Hi a quick bit about me, I started buying tunes to put on a night locally in Northampton just for mates but then started hearing the stuff that was being played at clubs like Pow wow and Federal and i was hooked. I love the hunt for the rare and unusual and have a broad taste from early Blues to African funk, taking in Gospel,Latin,Garage and anything that takes my fancy. i've been lucky to play at some of my favorite clubs over the years and especially love an afternoon spot where i can play my more random tunes. Really looking forward to a return to Deep Cliffs as i’ve heard there will be some music to accompany the gastronomic weekender. It will be great to get a chance to dip into the Latin & Afro box and get that tropical vibe going.

Once grandma’s music shack stopped cooking up that lovely soul stew and the illegal dances were truly a thing of the past, the only way to get some of that sweet soul music was to Go West. Suddenly Granny’s crumble pie as well as the crumbling wall made life then oh so very sweet indeed. This time with the ok from the boys in blue and no planned escape route laid out just in case, the Chain Gang Soundsystem and The Northern Soul Family Allnighter in Hamburg were now Right On Brothers!!!! After that, somehow a daytrip to London in 1996 turned into a decade of all kind of silliness. The odd backroom of a restaurant, where all sorts of things were dropped including vegetables & records, was just one of dem shebeens. The last 2 decades were spent either in front, behind but very rarely underneath the decks at many weekenders & allnighters !!!!

Ive been collecting Soul 45’s of all genres for over 40 years but only began djing in the 90’s. My first dj’ing experiences were in Manchester, usually as the warm up, largely playing odd and obscure crossover tunes but since then I’ve been lucky enough to be asked to play at some of the best nights and weekenders across Europe, from Barcelona to Bamberg , Berlin to Oslo and many places in between!
Playing two hour sets in the ‘House of Soul’ at the Prestatyn weekenders, over a number of years, enabled me to play a wide variety of different genres of music and lead to the style of sets that I like to play today, mixing rare 70’s and 80’s Modern and crossover, with a few 60’s, a touch of funk and a splash of disco!!
In recent years I have been a co-promoter and member of the Manchester based dj collective ‘Ultimate Choice’ playing at venues in and around the city and presenting our own monthly radio show. Currently a resident at the fantastic Deep Cliffs weekender since 2018, it’s been a pleasure to see this event just get better and better!

As a young mini-mod I started going to Soul/Scooters nights in Bucks and London in about 1983 graduating to nighters about a year later, like many kids in the 80's I was really influenced by the sixties mafia of Keb & Guy but also Adam, Ady, Ian Clarke, Soul Sam and of course Butch. Great venues, nighters most weekends and a mate with a VW Scirocco made for happy days.
My collecting started seriously in 1986 I bought: The commands - Hey It's love and then as a new release: James Cobin & the prime cut. Then House, Acid Jazz and so on took over for a bit... Loved getting back into Northern in the late 90's did a bit of guest DJ-ing, broke things like Lil Mary Staten (on GME) at the 100 club, ran a small night called ARSE > A Rare Soul Evening < in London and generally made a fool of myself at Cleethorpes including a memaorable journey with Al Wilson singing the Snake to me in the 1st class carriage of our train.
Had a few breaks from the scene (kids)(prison) nowadays I collect across the board
Loving the European scene and look back fondly at a blessed life of great moments, great friends and great music - we've had a great crack of the whip and I for one never thought I'd be dancing to the Springers "Nothing's too good for my baby" in a ballroom in Germany when I first heard it in 1984."

Just like Joe Turner said „Two Loves Have I“…
…both of them are Soul whether it is from the US continent or from the Isle of Jamaica.
It all began in the late 80s early 90s. There have been scooters, there have been beer and there have been kind of Soul music…actually it was Motown, Atlantic and maybe Stax and some Ska every now and than. Later the scooters vanished but the beer and the music remained. As I was a teenager there wasn’t much money left for records so I started digging the flea markets on Sundays. And like I grow up the soul scene in Germany did. We all started with tunes like „The Snake“ and to me one of the most remarkable tunes of the very early days was Prince Busters „Rough Rider“. At this time I didn’t know the term of „Rocksteady“. But at the end right this kind of music became my passion. Nowadays I’m collecting and playing both kinds of good music…Soul & Reggae!
Some years ago I had the luck to find my new home in Hamburg the most soulful city of Germany. And I’ve got the opportunity to play my records at some different venues and parties. Today most of the time I’m playing all kinds of Reggae at the regular events likes „The Cole Slaw Club“ and the „Ska Train to Reggae City“ and from time to time I’m allowed to play some of my Northern and Modern gems at different spots. And now last but not least I’m very proud and happy to get part of the wonderful occasion of the 3rd Deep Cliffs Soul Weekender“ which I enjoyed so much over the last two years and that hopefully will be a fixed date in my calendar for many of the next years… Run come celebrate - it’s festival time…This Party Got Soul!

Imke Keyssler aka Ada Loveshake is a Hamburg based (rare) soul collector and occasional DJ.
She used to be member of the all-female-deejay-collective «45° Degrees Soul Club Hamburg» with a regular Nighter at Molotow Club Hamburg. She's been deejaying at various european weekenders in recent years, such as Stockholm, Barcelona, Bilbao, Dresden, Lucerne and Hamburg. Nowadays she’s part of the mixed styles radio collective ‚Das Draht’ and hosts her own soul radio show every two months at byte.fm Hamburg.

Brian Poust hails from San Antonio Texas by way of Atlanta Georgia. With nearly 25 years experience DJing in the United States and Mexico, the Deep Cliffs Soul Weekender will be his second time DJing in Europe, following two Spanish gigs in 2012. Brian has researched Soul music from the state of Georgia since the 1990s, with a published article in Oxford American magazine as well as lending his expertise to Now-Again's Richard Marks anthology "Never Satisfied" (2014) and Numero Group's compilation "Eccentric Soul: The Tragar & Note Labels" (2008).

Sebastian has been bitten by the soul bug about 20 years ago. Since then he is collecting records and digging deep to find overlooked and fresh tunes as well as firm stompers. His sound is concentrating mostly on male group soul from ’69 to ’79. Fortunately he is dj-ing since then, so that you get an opportunity to have a listen to his sound, which is as colorful as his underarms. He could tear your heart out with a late set as well, as he could instantly get you running to the dancefloor from the first to the last note he is playing. Sebastian is living in Frankfurt, where he is one of the heads behind „Solid Soul“, which is a more or less regularly Series of Allnighters with a excellent selection of guest DJs to bring sophisticated rare soul to the city. He is DJing on Soulweekenders and Nighters all across over Europe and even the USA. You better clean your dancing shoes. You will definitely need them.

Here Jadd and Soul music is my passion. I think there isn’t better way to introduce myself ! That’s why I keep on collecting records, sharing them on my sessions and travelling to Soul parties like the first day.
As a DJ i've been , in my hometown, Madrid, co-organizer LUCHANA alldayers with guests djs from the rare soul circuit ( USA & EU) and more lately I gave people a lot to talk about with Secret Rendez-Vous Sessions , recently transformed into a weekly radio magazine. I´ve walked my recordbox as guest dj at Soul Essence (UK), Soul Shakers (Germany), Swiss Soul Weekender (Swiss), Stockholm Soul Weekender (Sweden), Soul4real (Bilbao-Spain) and SoulsUnited (UK) among others and I´m very happy to go back the third time to the Deep Cliffs in Algarve, first time behind the desks ! This is one of my favorite Soul Weekender in the European circuit, where I atend as a punter since the first year. It’s really a honour. I hope to see you all in Algarve.

All the madness started in the year 1987 when I was spending my holidays in England and went to a trip to London. There were these elder and smart guys in my school. They told me what to buy and where to find it. That´s what I did. I was 14.
And so I bought Kent-Compilations, Mods Mayday, Dance Craze. Suddenly I was addicted with music, especially with Soul-Music. In the beginning of the nineties I discovered Electronic Music, Deep House, Acid Jazz and all their relatives. But Soul, mainly Modern Soul, never went away. Maybe my outfit changed, but the spirit stayed. After deejaying a lot in Vienna during the 90 ´s, mainly with electronic stuff, I started to get more and more in touch with the originals again. And then I started to play these tunes in my sets, even at House Partys - to a crowd which had just slicely to do with Soul-Music. And it worked! Then I started to visit Allniters again. Just to dance to all this great tunes. And still – my greatest passion is to dance! That´s why I´m here. Listening to all that great music, played by all these addicts and dance my shoes off. With the love of my life: „walking in rhythm, movin in sound…“ Ah, and yes, I´m still deejaying in Austria and thankfully I´m also deejaying at Deep Cliffs Soul Weekender 2018…

I started my soulful journey as a young mod sometime around the early eighties. When I heard Bobby Sheen’s “Doctor Love” for the first time I realized there was no turning back, and began collecting rare american soul music on 45rpm vinyl full-stop. Since back then I have been a regular at many venues in the mod and scooter scenes. I love all kinds of black sounds with a high-rate heartbeat for the funky edged and the modern stuff. I run once a year the Cannonball Soul Weekender and a little record label, Cannonball Records. I have been deejaying in the States, Uk, Europe and Russia and I thank Laurent big time for linin'me up for Deep Cliffs.

About 14 years ago I began collecting vinyl and DJing. I started with 60s Beat, Soul and Reggae tunes, but then focussed on Soul 45s. My favorites being Soul, Latin Soul and Funk from the late sixties till the mid seventies. I founded several Clubs and Allnighters in Leipzig and Hamburg and since 7 years I'm part of the DJ-Team 45°Degrees in Hamburg - a group of female Djs with a regular Allnighter. I also had several guest spots mainly in Germany and Spain.“

Chris Dalton ( Lincoln U.K) Cleethorpes Pier All nighters
I started running a mobile disco back in 1967 and played all types of music from ballroom to Jimi Hendrix (who I had the pleasure of seeing live). By 1971 I was hooked on soul music, stax, atlantic and motown. I eventually moved onto the more obscure and rarer soul records. I was honoured to have been the first DJ on opening night at the legendary Cleethorpes Pier all-nighters in 1974, continuing until the Pier closed. I have DJ’d at various events around the UK over the years and I have also run my own soul nights including all-nighters in the Lincoln Drill Hall. In Spain I have been part of the Hitsville Rare Soul Weekender for 13 years and of course 2 weekenders in Portugal.
I’m still adding to my northern collection, and also collect 70’s, crossover and modern soul sounds.
