From Milwaukee, Usa . The Get Down club
I started spinning records with my middle brother Tom around the mid-to-late 90s. We hated the club music at the time (IDM, turntablism, basically the bad jazz fusion of our generation), and wanted to hear older and more uptempo music as a soundtrack to our late teens/early 20s social lives. That led to 60s mod/garage/international beat and obviously soul and funk 45s. Lotus Land, our store (and eventually label) opened in 2001 and connected us to many more like-minded DJs both nationally and internationally. I made my first DJ trip over to U.K. in 2003 and really had my eyes opened to the differences in how the music was perceived, danced to, and marketed. After starting the band Kings Go Forth a few years later and subsequently touring quite a bit worldwide, the friends and colleagues I've made via soul music number in the hundreds, a scene which truly enriches my life daily. These days I'm mostly digging for records per usual, working on rare black music licensing projects, and also spending countless hours on my parallel passion, plant-based cooking.

From Barcelona, Spain . The Boiler
Hi, my name is Jordi and, together with Cristina, i’ve been running the Boiler Club in Barcelona for well over a decade. I’ve been fortunate to play my records all over Europe, both in clubs and in festivals. I’ve also comped a few LPs, the last one being ‘Tremblin’’. I must confess that i get a big kick designing the covers, which is my trade. I usually mix lesser known tracks with a couple of the big ones that got us hooked in the first place. Yep, the hits that no one seems to spin anymore. I hope i don’t get sick on the boat.
Today‘s top ten.

Dave Thorley
Soul DJ, Promoter and Record Dealer ( Top Dog Records ). He lives in the UK and has been a moving force in rare soul music for over 30 years. David first started Djing at the Yate Allnighters, near Bristol in the mid 70’s, by the end of this decade he had become a nationally respected DJ working at many of the countrys major Northern Soul events, including Wigan Casino. At the same time he started promoting his own events in the south west of england. During this time he made several trips to the U.S. looking for new records to play as a DJ. By the early 80’s the northern soul scene was in major decline with the loss of most of it’s flag ship events, Wigan Casion, Yate and The Mecca. At this time he started promoting the now ledgendary, Top Of The World, Stafford allnighters. These events gave the scene a much need shot in the arm and he is credited by many as being the saviour of ‘the scene’ at this time. The legacy this event left behind is still felt today. Working with other innovative dj’s including Richard Searling, Pat Brady, Gary Rushbrook, Soul Sam, Keb Darge and Guy Hennigan he change the nature of the rare soul scene in europe. Pat Brady “Dave Thorley created some classic Stafford sounds during his hour, and was one of the few that could successfully mix '60s through to '70s & '80s” The allnighters here ended in the late 80’s, but by this time the rare soul scene had started a major revival with events running from the south coast to scotland. During the 90’s he continued working at major UK events, as a DJ. In the late 90’s he once again started promoting events, with the Bretby Allnighters, again this event was much applauded for it’s music policy, which included a very popular modern soul room. Today he is a indemand DJ all over europe, still promotes Rare Soul events and runs a very sucessful vinyl record business on the internet.

Matt Fox hails from beautiful Cologne, Germany and loves soul music. Collecting for 20 years, his enthusiasm has never been greater! Music is his life and this is reflected in his love for all things soulful. Renowned for electric DJ sets, Fox collects and plays mainly 60s and 70s Northern, group harmonies, Crossover and Modern Soul, peppered with Funk, Gospel, R'n'B. Add in the groove of 80s Boogie and slower Steppers, a smattering of underplayed mid tempo acetates and unique feel good dancers that cover all the bases.
A dedicated digger, Fox goes far and wide in the hunt for OVO. His passion for digging on flea markets, record stores and diggin' trips make every bit of his soulful passion all the stronger. Starting with 50s - 70s Jazz and late 70s & 80s Soul that was quite popular in Cologne back in the day, Fox's collection reflects his varied and ever taste, access to records and the evolution of the scene.
